It is important to know the difference between US and European style dishwashers. While it is true that European style dishwashers can be up to 3dB quieter, it is important to know why.

US style dishwashers have hard food grinders and heating elements. Food grinders allow for the excess waste to be ground up and sent out. The second difference is the heating element. US style dishwashers have a large heating element in the bottom to aid in heating the water, and also give the dishwasher a heated dry option. Both can be turned on or off to save energy.
